It’s estimated that close to 9 million people all over the country visit the ER on a yearly basis due to slip and fall accidents. On top of that, slip and falls are the second highest causes of unintentional injuries in communities across America.

These incidences can take place anywhere, but frequently happen in or around business establishments – especially when property owners choose to put profits over the safety of patrons visiting their premises.

Owners Owe You a Measure of Safety

Property owners owe you a duty to keep you reasonably safe from injuries caused by premises issues. This may include making sure that there are no spills on the floor, hazardous holes are covered, any concrete gaps filled, and all areas are well-lit.  In addition, they are required by law in most states to ensure that any hazards are clearly marked with signs so you can avoid them.

If you sustain an injury because the owner of a business establishment neglected to warn you about a hazard, you may have grounds for a premises liability lawsuit. It’s estimated that defendants spend up to $450 million collectively across the nation to protect themselves against slip and fall claims even when they know they’re in the wrong. Because of this, you need to arm yourself with a competent slip and fall attorney who knows how to successfully prove your claim.

Injuries suffered in slip and fall accidents can be both serious and life-altering:

  • Broken bones
  • Brain trauma
  • Internal bleeding
  • Nerve damage
  • Torn ligaments
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Lacerations

Some of these injuries have been known to cause temporary or even permanent disability, effectively putting you out of work for days, weeks, months, or for good. By contacting an experienced premises liability lawyer, you’ll have a better chance at getting compensation to help you pay for your treatment, rehabilitation, and also reimburse you when it comes to lost wages for the duration of your convalescence.

There are some actions you should take immediately after a slip and fall accident. Here’s a helpful list:

  1. Take clear pictures of your injuries as well as the scene.
  2. Contact a slip and fall attorney immediately.
  3. Do not sign any papers presented to you by the business or insurance company.
  4. Take down the names and contacts of any witnesses.
  5. Store the clothing and accessories (especially footwear) that you were wearing.
  6. Seek medical attention.

All these steps can help you build an air-tight case that will increase your chances at a favorable outcome. If you were injured in a slip and fall accident due to someone else’s negligence, you have every right to seek justice and compensation for your injuries. Please call 1-800-ATTORNEY today and speak with one of our experienced slip and fall injury attorneys about your case for no cost.
