Drive Safe & Prevent Unnecessary Accidents

Drive Friendly. Drive Safe.

A reminder from the Texas Department of Transportation and 1-800-ATTORNEY.

Road safety is a vital part of life because the lives of motorists depend on it. With the rise in fuel prices, many people are choosing to use other means of transport such as motorbikes and bicycles. Because of this, car drivers need to be extra careful in order to avert any accidents between them and other road users.

Campaign Launched

The Texas Department of Transportation is leading the way when it comes to road safety thanks to their Drive Friendly, Drive Safe campaign. The initiative seeks to educate motorists on the importance of being mindful of others while on the road, all done to drive down injuries and fatalities on Texas roads.

The Dark Statistics

According to statistics, more than 5,000 pedestrians were struck by vehicles in Texas roads in 2012. This resulted in 2,962 injuries and 481 fatalities. At the same time, 2,000 bicycle-riders were struck by car drivers which resulted in 1450 serious injuries including 56 fatalities. These statistics point to the importance of having safety measures enforced on our roads to protect the lives of thousands of people.

Highway Workers Need Protection

Additionally, Texas has been named as one of the states with the highest number of highway work zone fatalities. Constant repairs are renovations are happening on an almost daily basis on our roads, and instances of motorists not slowing down or changing lanes near these work zones has led to the loss of lives of employees of the Texas Department of Transportation.

What You Can Do

Drive Friendly. Drive Safe.

New legislation has helped bring down these accidents. However, car drivers need to realize that the roads are populated with other types of vehicles as well as pedestrians. Here are some of the tips that may help prevent the occurrence of these accidents:

  • Paying attention while on the road. This includes avoiding things such as texting or using social media while driving.
  • Merging carefully and ensuring that other motorists can see you at all times, giving them enough time to react.
  • Keeping yourself up-to-date on any new highway rules in your city and the state as a whole.
